Clearly some of the reviews here are prejudice. My family is from Hong Kong and we have tried most of the dim sum places in the Bay Area. East Ocean ranks as one of the best. Food is excellent, place is clean. Restaurant is packed on weekends for lunch with line sometimes out the door. I have eaten here at dinner as well and have never been disappointed. Staff is friendly enough, but at peak periods, they are multi-tasking as best they can. I notice that they run the restaurant via the traditional hierarchy of captain, waiter, dim sum cart handler, and busboy. Americans need to learn to ask the waiter for more tea. Sometimes a captain will pitch in on this, but that is not their duty. Cart handlers only handle their cart. And busboys do not serve, they clear. My family loves East Ocean which is the best in the East Bay. Reminds us of Hong Kong. |
